Following handover of keys from Peakside to new operator Taj: Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt reopens on 1 June, 2026

  • Reopening of the former Grand Hotel at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre as the “Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt”
  • First Taj luxury hotel in continental Europe
  • Successful completion of refurbishment whilst preserving the building’s historic charm

Frankfurt am Main, June 2, 2026 – Following a two-year, extensive refurbishment, Boris Schran and Simon Lutz, partners at the European investment manager Peakside Capital Advisors AG (Peakside), recently handed over the keys to the former Grandhotel Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt to Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL). This icon of Frankfurt’s luxury hotel industry reopened on 1 June 2026 under a new banner as the Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt.

The hotel was given a completely new design that incorporates modern touches whilst respecting the building’s architectural integrity. The rooms have all been refurbished, with Indian colour schemes taking centre stage. The hotel now offers around 130 luxurious guest rooms and suites, various conference rooms, the Indian restaurant ‘Bombay Brasserie’, several terraces, a conservatory, a spa and fitness area, and an underground car park. The legendary Jimmy’s Bar has retained its historic charm. The Chambers, India’s first exclusive business club, is also opening a branch within the hotel.

Boris Schran says: “We are delighted that the legendary Hessischer Hof, with its long tradition as a five-star hotel close to the Frankfurt Trade Fair, is now reopening its doors as a Taj Hotel. Many former guests and visitors from across Germany and around the world have been eagerly awaiting this moment, as has the city of Frankfurt am Main.”

Simon Lutz adds: “We are confident that we have found the right new operators for the Hessischer Hof in IHCL and Taj. With their extensive experience in the luxury hotel industry, they will lead the hotel into a bright future. We wish them every success.”

Puneet Chhatwal is equally delighted: “With the Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, we will be continuing the history of this great establishment to the highest standards. We are very proud to take on this task. For more than a century, the Taj brand has stood for luxury hospitality of the highest order, genuine warmth and comprehensive service. We are now bringing these qualities to Frankfurt and aim to set new standards here. We would like to thank Peakside for the good cooperation over the past few years and look forward to continuing our partnership.”

Peakside acquired the Grandhotel Hessischer Hof from the Hessische Hausstiftung in December 2022 and signed a 20-year lease agreement in 2023 with the renowned Indian hotel company IHCL, which is part of the Tata Group. IHCL has a portfolio of more than 270 hotels across eleven countries on four continents. With the Hessischer Hof, IHCL will operate its first Taj hotel in continental Europe. Since the beginning of June, the hotel has been welcoming guests again under the management of Albert Mayr.
